The founders of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was started with the vision of emphasis on bilingual education and whole-person development.

For more than five decades CUHK has embraced its founding philosophy, capitalized on its distinct advantages and navigated different challenges to develop into a research-oriented comprehensive university highly esteemed locally, in the region and in the world.CUHK is the only university in Hong Kong that offers a collegiate system and experience uniquely integrated into a modern university education. The nine Colleges of CUHK offer a plethora of non-formal learning opportunities to complement the formal curricula.

At CUHK, a wide range of academic programs leading to the bachelor’s degree are organized in its eight Faculties, including Arts, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Science, and Social Science.

Given its geographical location and traditions and ties, CUHK enjoys special advantages in the study of Chinese language, culture, economics, etc. Different specialties in engineering (electronic, information, automation, etc.) command world-leading positions. Its Business School, Law School, and Medical School are reputable training grounds for professionals in their respective fields as well as centers of seminal research.

CUHK's high-quality basic and applied research in all disciplines underpins the first-class education it offers. CUHK has long been promoting interdisciplinary research excellence on a local, national and international scale. In its latest strategic plan, CUHK has identified four research priorities to build on its strengths and leading advantages in those areas to address some of the most pressing issues of the world today.

CUHK graduates' futures are firmly in their own hands. A good number of those pursuing further studies get accepted by prestigious overseas institutions of their choice. The graduating class find themselves much welcome by local employers and multinational companies and 80% of them are able to secure employment within the first year of their graduation. The alumni's care for the good of their alma mater is an unfailing resource for current students in terms of mentorship opportunities, career guidance and even early career launch.

CUHK has the largest, most scenic and sustainably designed and maintained campus in Hong Kong, complete with modern learning facilities and cultural, sport, social and other amenities. The campus is conveniently located in Shatin, a suburb in the northeastern part of the city, itself a world financial centre and an exchange hub of ideas, capital and people in Asia.

Applicants who have been admitted to a full-time undergraduate program will be asked to indicate their preferences for college affiliation. In assigning new students to different Colleges, it is desirable that each College would have students from different faculties/ departments to facilitate interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge and ideas and to widen the students' intellectual perspective. The system for assigning new students to Colleges takes into consideration the preferences of students, their study program and admission scores. Priority is given to a new student to be assigned to his/her first-preference College if either of his/her parent is an alumnus/alumna of the College.

While students will be assigned college affiliation based on their preferences as far as possible, they may not be assigned their most preferred College owing to limitation of places available.
